Once your new piece of artwork is complete, your tattoo artist will wrap your tattoo with cling film and you’ll be on your way. We realise there may be a lot of adrenaline buzzing after finishing your tattoo so anything that you may have forgotten during the explanation of how to take care of a tattoo, is available here on our website. Below are some of the best tattoo aftercare tips:
- A protective cover will be applied over your new tattoo to protect it from dust, dirt and infection in its first stages of healing. This cover MUST be replaced with a new one after three hours.
- Remove the cover and gently wash your tattoo with luke warm water and a mild soap.
- Pat the tattoo dry. DO NOT rub your tattoo as this may pull any scabbing off and result in colour loss. Apply Bepanthen aftercare ointment and then cover with new cling film. Bepanthen is a nappy rash ointment which is available at Boots, Tesco, Asda and most chemists.
- During the first few days, wash as described above for two to three times per day and apply Bepanthen ointment after each wash and keep the tattoo covered in cling film for around 3 days.
- As the tattoo heals you may experience that it starts to feel tight. To relieve this we advise you to apply a small amount of Bepanthen.
- Your scabbing should last for around four to five days depending on your individual healing rate.
- Your tattoo will then have dry, shiny, new skin layers over it for a week or so. A general moisturizer e.g Bepanthen can be applied to aid healing (only after those first 3 days.)
- Change your cling film three times a day, for the first three days. Repeat steps 2 and 3 every time you change it. In the shop you might get specific custom aftercare recommended by one of our tattoo artists. Please follow those guidelines that your artist gives you.
- DO NOT pick at the scabbing as this will extract the colour out of your tattoo and cause patchiness.
• DO NOT soak your tattoo in the bath until ALL the scabbing has disappeared.
• DO NOT swim in chlorinated water until ALL the scabbing has disappeared.
After the scabbing has cleared you MUST apply sun block when in the sun. UV rays will bleach the colours in your tattoo design. Hope you’ll follow these post tattoo care tips
